Eggzactly

You know the older you get the fewer firsts you have in your life, unless you are a world traveler or something. So today, as far as I can recollect, is the first time I found a chicken egg! Our neighbor always tells us if we find any eggs, take them home, but this was the first one I found and its brown. Hey, I'm easily entertained, what can I say?

I also found 3 polka dotted guinea feathers, and saw a cottontail and a jackrabbit and a quail.

If You Ruin the Earth Where Will You Live?

Happy Earth Day everyone. Just yesterday someone was telling me how he brought acorns home from Sherwood Forest years ago and grew them into trees in CA. Some died but others he found good homes for. They are 6 feet tall now. He said they require lots and lots of water. Many were cut down to build masts for the Spanish Armada. Or so he said. I'm not sure why England was providing masts for Spain.  Still it made for an interesting tale, and reminded me that we could all be planting more trees.  Check your local nursery for trees that are native to your local area for best results.

Fourteen Years is Long For a Cat

I am sad to say it is time to say good-bye to our favorite kitty Wallop. I spent half the day crying, and I'm trying real hard not to go there again, and Monday will be his last day.  He's always been an indoor cat, but we will tuck him into the ground in the desert and he will finally be an outdoor cat. Then we will say our farewells and send his spirit off to Bast, the Goddess of cats. At least he got to enjoy his new home for six months. He was a stray kitten we rescued and he had a bad colon so he's had medicine twice a day for many years. Now it is time to let him go.

Okay I'm tearing up again so I'll stop here for now.

Birdbath

I was talking to a friend online last night and it turns out she has a Zen garden too. So I was thinking of ways to put a water element into it, when there is no water out there. She has a nice fountain in the middle of hers. So then I had an inspiration. I can get a birdbath and just carry water out to it. So now I need to keep my eyes peeled for a birdbath. From a witch's standpoint, it is good to include the four elements. The sunflowers can be my sun element. The sand and the rocks are the earth element. I have real birds for air. And the water will be a birdbath I hope. Maybe I can find one on Craig's list.

Zel's Zen Garden

A few weeks ago I started a Zen garden at my desert home. I believe the adage of chopping wood and carrying water is good for the soul. So I'm purposely planting things that require water, and none of our hoses reach nearly that far. So each time I visit I need to carry water. Hopefully it will motivate me to spend time there as well, and not forget all about it.

It is near our firewood pile, so today I pulled out logs to make a little border fence around the perimeter. It feels so much better with the area defined more. I planted sunflowers to act as a windbreak and to add beauty. They are the Mammoth sunflowers. I just hope the rabbits don't eat them when they sprout. If they grow to fruition, I'll be able to use the seeds to feed the birds.

I don't have a lot of spare cash, so I'm making due with what I have. I'm doing a little here and there as time and money allow. I feel more centered whenever I spend time out there, even if I'm just raking the sand, or cleaning up debris.

Welcome to Portal to Esoterica

Greetings. I started this blog to go with my Youtube channel Portal to Esoterica and my new website by that name. I am an eccletic solitary pagan. I don't mind being called a witch. But I am not Wiccan. Wicca is a strict organized religion that suits some people just fine, but I've had enough of organized religions my sisters. I've met a lot of you that have as well. But whatever path you walk, feel welcome here. Paganism is a pretty big umbrella. Hopefully you'll find your spot in the shade.
